Portland Oregon To Mt St Helens Windy Ridge Loop Drive Itinerary

Windy Ridge ObservatoryPerhaps the easiest access from Portland is the shortest —109 miles, a little over a 2-hour drive.

Head north on Interstate 5 ( I-5) through Vancouver, WA, USA, to Woodland, EPortland to Mt St Helens Mapxit 21.

Here you will head east on Washington Highway 503 past Lake Merwin, Yale, and Swift Creek Reservoir.

Continue on what becomes Forest Road (paved, not gravel) 90 to the Pine Creek Information Station at the junction of FR 25.

Here you turn north on FR 25, which will lead to the Windy Ridge Road FR 99, featured in the video on this site.

After your visit, returning out to FR25, you could reverse some of the directions given elsewhere to reach Randle, on the White Pass Highway, or Carson, in the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Area.
