Seattle To Portland Loop Map

Or the reverse, Portland to Seattle, as this would be better if attempting to do this trip in 1 day.

Leave the City of Roses, Portland Oregon, early in the morning heading up the totally majestic Columbia River Gorge on I-84, east, past Multnomah Falls to the Cascade Locks Exit to cross the Bridge of Gods.

Then right on Washington Highway 14 through Stevenson, and on to the turnoff north of the Wind River Highway.

Four miles after passing through Carson you enter the Gifford Pinchot National Forest —one of the first NF established— where you will begin to climb on Forest Road 30 over Old Man Pass, in the Mount Adams area, bordering on Shallie Tyee, or Indian Heaven —which it truly is— to the "new" FR 51 heading downhill, avoiding miles of torturous curves, to FR 90.

Here turn left, drive 5.4 miles to FR 25, which you follow north to FR 99, the Windy Ridge road, featured in the virtual tour on this site.

After running out of film, or memory cards, exit left out of FR 99 to FR25, once again, heading north to Washington Highway 12 at Randal.

Head west to Interstate 5, and join in the continuous stream of traffic once again north to Seattle, or south, returning to Portland.
